Dear Parent,

I am a first grade teacher, but I am NOT your child’s first teacher.

As a parent, YOU have the greatest ability to impact your child’s learning.

Many adults do not remember learning to read and some children appear to just “get it”.

The truth is, there is nothing “natural” about learning to read. Our brains are “wired” for learning many things, like walking and talking… This is not the case for learning to read. Reading and writing are man-made (albeit divinely inspired) processes that everyone can learn, given the right circumstances and instruction.

The purpose of this site is to support parents and caregivers as they nurture young children in becoming life long readers and learners.

A parent’s love…

All of the artwork you will see on this site was made by my mother. While I understand that not all children have the same sort of parenting experience, all children encounter adults that have a “parenting” affect on their lives. My own mother nurtured my love of reading and learning while also encouraging my creativity. If you are here, you must have a child in your life whom you love and care for. This is someone whose life you can have an impact on! It takes a community to raise a child and I am so pleased you have visited here with a special child, or children, in mind! I am praying for your journey!

A resource for nurturing a love of reading
